Calculate Your Power Needs

Use our handy calculator to help select the Inverter/PowerDelivery Module that's right for your project. Please note that all calculations are approximate. To get exact system sizing, be sure to contact your SolarSense representative.

Volts x Amps = Watts - a formula you should get to know.

Volts x amps = watts is the one electrical formula most used to help customers determine their battery storage and power delivery requirements. All appliance wattage draws listed in the table are approximate.

Whenever possible, you should multiply the amp rating of your appliance by its AC voltage draw to determine wattage. This information can be found on the manufacturer's product information plate.

Appliance wattage draws

It is useful to note that some loads don't always have a continuous wattage draw. Be aware of these loads when sizing your inverter. The most common situations are:

  1. High start-up surge requirements with lower continuous wattage (refrigerators and power tools). These are designated in the following table as "HS"
  2. Loads in standby mode , that come "on" for shorter periods of time. (pumps and freezers). These are designated as "SB"
  3. Intermittent loads with high wattages. These are designated as "I"
  4. Loads that operate continuously at rated wattages. These are designated as "C"

Sizing the right inverter system to your appliance power ratings

Use the appliance wattage-draw table to determine the wattage of the appliances you wish to use. Use the manufacturer's specifications on the product nameplates if possible.

  1. Add up the sum total of all the appliances you wish to run simultaneously.
  2. Select the inverter system with a continuous wattage rating that exceeds the figure calculated in the first step.
